10 students set off for Brussels bright and early on Thursday, 1st of May. This was part of an EU funded Erasmus trip. Brussels was a gem – beautiful weather, culture and politics.
When we arrived, we embarked on a walking tour of the city with Hermine, our guide. We took in sites such as the Grand Place, the Guild Halls, the Manneken Pis and the street art. The cobbled streets and winding alleys of the old town revealed all the charm of the city.
The following day, we were up early to negotiate the Metro to the EU Parliament. We were met by Eimear Deery, an accredited assistant to Maria Walsh, MEP. She gave us an in-depth tour of the Hemicycle where the MEPs sit and answered questions from our future Ballyhaunis MEPs!
A quick stop at the Chocolate Museum and another tram to the Docks area for some retail therapy followed before we returned to the hotel for the night.
The final day saw us checking out and heading out to Mini Europe and the Atomium. We took a whistle-stop journey around the main attractions in each EU country in miniature form and admired the mirrored Atomium.
We collected the bags and travelled back to Zaventem airport. It was a truly wonderful experience for the students (and the teachers!)
A big thank you to Ms Hargaden Whyte and Ms Phelan for accompanying the students on this unforgettable trip.
