BCS played host to an inter-school debate friendly last Friday, the 4th of April. Debaters from Glenamaddy CS and Castlerea CS, along with their teachers, joined us for a day of heated debate and discussion.
There were three rounds of debate, covering motions such as “This House believes that AI is a force for good” and “This House would emigrate.” Sixteen speakers took on the challenge with aplomb.
It was fabulous to see the quick-thinking points of information and the rebuttals that each team put forward.
Mr. Pat McHugh, former principal at BCS, and Ms. Kirsty Phillips, our adjudicators for the day, were hard-pressed to choose a winning team.
BCS ultimately claimed the top spot. Aqeel Amjad and Eva Boyle convinced us all that we should have a united Ireland in the final round.
Congratulations to our two teams, who spoke passionately on the day.
A special word of thanks to Ms Phelan and Mr Bradshaw for mentoring the students and for organising this wonderful event, and to Glenamaddy and Castlerea for joining us on day. We are already looking forward to next year’s debate!
