Art Collaborative Project
Four second-level schools in County Mayo came together in an inspiring display of creativity, collaboration, and community spirit through a unique art initiative titled โFelt Connections.โ
75 students from Ballyhaunis Community School, St. Louis Community School Kiltimagh, St. Josephโs Secondary School Foxford, and Scoil Muire agus Padraig Swinford worked collectively as part of a Creative Clusters project to produce a large-scale and meaningful artwork, which was gifted to Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation in Castlebar.
Today, a cohort of 5th-year art students from each of the four schools, accompanied by their teachers, had the privilege of visiting the hospice to present their artwork in person.
CEO of Mayo Roscommon Hospice, Mary Nash, warmly welcomed the students and teachers. She thanked them for their thoughtful gift, describing the artwork as beautiful and expressing excitement at the prospect of displaying it within the hospice. Mary also gave the group a tour of the facility and shared insight into the incredible and compassionate work carried out there every day.
Also in attendance were Mayo Education Director Michael McKenzie, Art Therapist Manager Joan Bolt, and visual artist Cas McCarthy.
This initiative beautifully demonstrates how art can bring people together, connecting schools and communities while leaving a lasting positive impact. It was a heartwarming day, and we at Ballyhaunis Community School were proud to be part of such a special occasion.
It is our hope that the Felt Connections artworks will adorn the walls of Mayo Roscommon Hospice for many years to come, offering quiet warmth and comfort to all who encounter them.
