29 students travelled to Athlone today for the Connaught Schools Athletics finals. It was an extremely impressive display from the entire Ballyhaunis contingent. We managed to come home with a record 5 Connaught titles with excellent wins from Niamh OโNeill in the 100 meters and Long Jump events. Amy Greally was Long Jump winner in her category. Joseph Wagacha won the Steeplechase event and Patrick Caulfield completed the haul with victory in the High Jump. Patrick Caulfield finished runner-up in the Long Jump and Niamh Foody was runner-up in the High Jump. Third place finishes from Sean Carrick in the Triple Jump and Long Jump, Niamh Ward in the Triple Jump, Piarais Caulfield, Callum Gardiner and Joseph Murphy in their respective Discus events completed a memorable day for BCS Athletics.
In total 10 students qualified individually for the All-Ireland finals today which makes it the most successful Athletics performance in years from Ballyhaunis. Well done to all and best of luck in the All-Irelands finals. Huge credit must go to Mr Woolley and Mr Griffin for their continued great commitment to promoting a variety of Sports for all age groups at BCS.
