Tuesday April 4th was our school’s first ever Global Goals Day. This day showcased Transition Year’s work in Development Education. The study hall was transformed into a carnival of Presentation Stands on several of the Global Goals, our very own ‘Spin The Global Wheel’, a food corner where food we would normally waste (brown bananas, leftover chicken, over-ripe fruit) were magically transformed into appetising snacks and also a gardening corner full of sprouting lettuce and carrots.
Throughout the day First and Second Year students were invited to the hall to visit the stands, sow some bulbs, taste banana buns and spin the wheel. The TY’s had also organised a quiz sheet for the students on the Global Goals. Each class got their opportunity to give their opinion at the end of the session on the Comments Board. An Easter egg was given to a lucky member of each class for their participation in the event.
Mr. McDonagh launched the Global Goals Day and the event was also visited by Ms. Aishling McGrath from Worldwise Global Schools who have provided a grant for Development Education in the school. The day concluded with the happy news that Ballyhaunis Community School has been awarded its first ever Global Passport!! We hope to have a formal ceremony at a later date to celebrate this achievement.
